Colin B. Harris, MD, FAAOS

Dr. Colin Harris is a fellowship-trained, board certified orthopedic spine surgeon practicing in New York and New Jersey for over 15 years. Dr. Harris is a graduate of Columbia University and New York Medical College and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at UMDNJ – New Jersey Medical School at University Hospital in Newark, NJ. He then successfully completed a fellowship in spine surgery at Rush University in Chicago, Il, one of the most prestigious such programs in the United States. Dr. Harris takes pride in seeing every patient as a unique individual and tailors a surgical treatment plan that addresses their problem with the least invasive and most modern techniques. His treatment philosophy is ensuring that every patient thoroughly understands their spinal condition and all treatment options, formulating a plan and getting them back to their pre-injury status as quickly as possible. Dr. Harris works closely with other spine providers including physical therapists, pain management specialists and neurologists to provide a comprehensive treatment approach.  He has been active throughout his career teaching spine surgical techniques to residents and students and has multiple research publications within the fields of orthopedics and spine surgery.

Dr. Harris is known for applying minimally invasive surgical techniques to a variety of patient conditions from more common degenerative problems to complex revision and deformity surgeries. He teaches minimally invasive lateral lumbar surgery (XLIF) to surgeons from around the world and has been at the cutting edge of applying these techniques to help patients in the New York metropolitan area recover more quickly. He is experienced in the application of robotics and navigation as well as motion-sparing techniques such as disc replacement surgery and uses these techniques whenever possible to provide faster recoveries for his patients. Dr. Harris is an active member of multiple professional societies including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and serves as faculty at the Orthopedic Summit in Evolving Techniques. Dr. Harris will be seeing patients in both the New York and New Jersey office locations and is very excited to join the spine team at Total Orthopedics.
