Sports Medicine
The sports medicine program treats athletes with any myriad of injuries that can occur in sports medicine to the shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee or ankle. All three physicians are specialty trained in the diagnosis, treatment and of the prevention of overuse and acute sports injuries. These include common injuries such as shoulder dislocation, labral injuries, rotator cuff injuries, the evaluation and treatment of the overhand athlete, elbow tendonitis, elbow ligament injuries, osteochondritis of the elbow or knee, biceps and triceps tendon tears, hip labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement, anterior and posterior cruciate ligament tears, meniscus tears, chondral injuries, patella chondromalacia, knee and hip osteoarthritis, patellar and quadriceps tendon tears and tendonitis, medial and lateral collateral ligament tears, ankle sprains, ankle osteochondral defects, Achilles tendon tears and tendonitis, and overuse injuries of the leg including stress fractures, compartment syndrome and shin splints.

Pain Mgmt
The pain management service at Total Orthopedics and Sports Medicine provides interventional pain management services for patients with neurologic pain for cervical and lumbar herniated nucleus pulposis, cervical and lumbar radiculopathy, radiculopathy from cervical and lumbar stenosis, and radiculopathy from spondylolisthesis.
Procedures performed by our pain management team include cervical and lumbar epidural steroid injections, lumbar facet injections, and neurostimulator implantation. For patients with significant post operative pain regional intrascalene and femoral nerve blocks can be performed in the office for extended pain control during the early rehabilitation process. Our pain management services are provided for in our Massapequa and Bronx locations.
Trauma
The fracture service at Total Orthopedics has a highly skilled team in the care and management of fractures, post-traumatic infections, nonunion of fractures, and deformity correction. Dr Mellon has specialty training in the operative fixation of hip fractures, pelvis fractures, knee, shoulder and ankle fractures, femur and tibia fractures and foot and calcaneus fractures. He is also an expert in the use of the spatial frame for deformity correction. This is a very technically demanding but powerful technique to correct deformities.
In patients with significant bone loss from trauma or from post-traumatic infection the spatial frame can be used to transport bone to make up for bone loss and to correct the deformity.
